Covered Bridge Festival Moves To Albany The
Oregon Covered Bridge Festival has been held in Stayton, Oregon for the last six
years. This festival draws thousands of people from around the world who are interested
History, culture, and these beautiful old bridges. The event features tours of
the five covered bridges in the Scio area, and one in Stayton, venders, food,
live entertainment, reenactments, and demonstrations. Festival
organizers were seeking a venue that would have easier access from I-5 for event
goers and would still be easily accessible to the bridges. The Oregon Covered
Bridge Festival Board has announced it will bring the festival to Albany's Timber
Linn Park on September 20th and 21st of 2008. Organizers have been working with
the Albany Visitors Association and Albany Parks and Recreation to help coordinate
the transition. Judy Prindel, President of the Festival, says, "I am excited about
the move. Albany has historic districts and the historic homes, this festival
seems like a good fit with the local community." The
Oregon Covered Bridge Festival Board of Directors elected and installed new officers
for 2008 at a Board of Directors meeting held in Albany on October 18th. The 2008
slate of officers are as follows: President:
Judy Prindel Vice President: Bill Cockrell Secretary: Lee Russell Treasurer:
Jerry Russell Sergeant at Arms: Pete Pavlukevich Festival
organizers will be looking for volunteers to help with the event. There will be
a wide range of jobs available from set up and take down to organizing committees,
vendors and entertainment. If you are interest in covered bridges and have a little
time to spare please call the Albany Visitors Association (541-928-0911) and get
your name on the list to help. Organizational meetings are starting for the 2008
